Disney Crossy Road was an extremely popular Disney-themed version of the beloved Crossy Road video game series for PCs, iOS, and Android mobile devices. The game was shut down in March, 2021, after only one season. But the game is still available, with all of the classic, special and rare characters available. What has taken the company so long to revive this classic game? Why now, when it appears they may finally be ready to make an “Expansive” expansion to this hit mobile title? And why now, when there are many new video game consoles and gaming platforms on the market today?
I have always loved playing Disney games, both on my PC and my Apple iPhone. Crossy Road on the other hand…is one of my favorite video games, and I would imagine that a vast majority of people who like this game also love it on Apple iOS and/or Android devices. The reason why the company hasn’t ports it to other platforms is because it’s a “once-in-a-lifetime” experience, according to Disney. I don’t know why they haven’t done this, considering the quality of the game, the user friendliness, the huge amount of fun this game has to offer, and the portability of its iOS and Android counterparts. It makes perfect sense to me.
Crossy Road on the other hand, is a true example of what quality video games should look like, and what they should feel like. The controls of the game are completely responsive, and are not “laggy” like many older games that I had when I was using a computer. The visuals are crisp and detailed, and everything you experience from beginning to end, is a true “immersion” experience.
With the new take on the original Crossy Road, developers Monkeywood have not only implemented all of the great ideas that made the original version so great, but have also added new features that make the gameplay much more enjoyable. One such feature is the in-game guide, which gives you tips and tricks on every level to help you complete your goals and complete the challenges within the shortest amount of time possible. In addition to this helpful tool, there are now several hot-keys which allow you to jump between levels and complete puzzles or even play mini-games without having to use the keyboard.
In addition to the amazing graphics and the user-friendly controls, another aspect that I love about the new Crossy Road is its updated physics engine. When you first start up the game, you will notice that everything feels very lifelike, including your avatar walking into walls, smashing into trees, or plowing right through sofa-potato grass. The added physics engine helps the player feel as if they are a part of everything that is happening throughout the entire game. While I am sure that there are still many games that utilize simplistic controls, I feel that Crossy Road takes it one step further and makes using them feel as natural as possible.
Last but not least, in terms of what makes this game different from all of the others that are available on the Nintendo Wii, I have to mention two things:oddy graphics and an all-new take on the concept of finding dory. While the graphics for the character are quite impressive, they could always be taken a little more subtle. However, once you get a hold of playing the game, you will quickly grow accustomed to the way that they move and interact with the environment. Also, the all-new take on finding dory has me thinking that maybe a future version of the game will let you choose which fish you would like to have as a playable character. Regardless of whether or not you agree with me in the future, you will likely be entertained by Crossy Road, which is available now for Nintendo Wii’s console.
